About If I move to San Jose, how much will all of this cost

If I move to San Jose, how much will all of this cost?
I might be going to San Jose to work in a program. In reality the only thing I'd really be paying for is living space (other than bugs, down for pretty much anything i.e. a roommate) and public transportation, to and from an area 5 days a week. how much will this cost, or how can I find out?

You can get one room for $500 to $600 may including utilities, there are some commuter special for just 5 day in a week for $350, just look at craigslist or local newspaper, or post in local grocery stores Buy a VTA month pass $70 and live close to your work place, Save gas and insurance
2 :
Public transportation will cost you $70 a month (its for the monthly pass) Rent: If you just want to rent a room, it can go anywhere from 350 to 1000+ depending on what you want (other criteria) and where you want to stay. San Jose is huge. If you want to rent an apartment, it can go from 700 something to thousands (again, depending on criteria and location) You can narrow it down even further yourself. Just choose your location and go on craigslist to see the rent for that area.

About what's the best/safest neighborhood to live if I'm working at IBM in San Jose

What's the best/safest neighborhood to live if I'm working at IBM in San Jose?
I am doing an internship with IBM Almaden this summer. My office will be far south in San Jose. Where is the best/safest area to live with a short (5-20min) commute to work. Is living close to the light rail a good idea? If anyone can specifically comment on the area around the 85/87 intersection that would be great. It looks nice and the rents are high, but there seems to be more crime. Thanks!

The very best Neighborhood in San Jose is Willow Glen. Almaden has som very nice neighborhoods as well. San Jose Has Been Ratyed as one of the top ten safest cities in america several years in a row for population over 250,000. Just stay away from 7 trees and the south east side and you should be fine.
2 :
Where did you hear that crime was high? Crime is high on the east side - not where 85 & 87 intersect, and I mean RIGHT where they intersect. I live here in a good neighborhood and yes it is expensive. Our 3 bedroom w/ a den is $2300 a month and from what I hear and see that's a pretty good deal. Especially now-a-days with all the foreclosures rent is going up like crazy with all the high demands for rentals.

About moving to Palo Alto/San Jose

Moving to Palo Alto/San Jose?
My boyfriend is looking at jobs out in Palo Alto. If we moved out there, I would most likely work in San Jose since the companies I'm interested in are there. I've lived in a small town my whole life and would like to stay in one, preferably with a cute downtown area. Are there any small towns in between these cities with moderate house prices? I'm looking in the 250-350k range. Also, I may not be able to get my MBA at my current college if we move. Are there any colleges nearby where you can get an MBA in a year for $25,000? This is what I could get at my current college so I need to know what I'm giving up. Thanks.

Between Palo Alto and San Jose, the only town with cheap housing is East Palo Alto, which has pretty bad crime and gang problems. If you are willing to live in a modest condo, or a small fixer-upper house, you might be able to find something in Mountain View or San Jose, as well as Fremont/Union City/Newark (reasonable commute both to PA and SJ). Beyond that, you can get some GREAT deals on houses in the exurbs that got hit big time with foreclosures - Hollister, Tracy, Modesto - but the commute will be bad to awful. If you want the "small town" feel without the terrible crime rates of the above-mentioned foreclosure towns, you might look into towns in the Santa Cruz mountains, which have traffic and natural-disaster issues but are relatively nice. I'm afraid there is nothing that will meet ALL of your criteria, so you should think about what is most important to you. I don't know much about MBAs, but I do know that University of San Francisco has an MBA program intended for working professionals, and I can only assume that other area colleges also have these programs.
2 :
There aren't much in the way of "small towns" around San Jose. The Santa Cruz mountains (30-45 min from San Jose) will probably come the closest, but I can't speak about the current housing market. 250-350k sounds low for a house, but should work for a condo. If you save on the house, you might have more for your MBA. Look up UCSC extensions for you MBA, or SJSU, Santa Clara University, Stanford University (Palo Alto). I am not sure about the $25K / 1 year though. Have you been a California resident for the past 2 year? If not, you will have higher tuition. East Palo Alto has been making a come back, and there are some areas that are not bad.
3 :
No place you can buy a house in 250 -350k You may get bank own house in east bay or east san jose for that price, but down payment is 40% or more East palo alto you can get 1 bedroom for $850( half price than palo alto), 50% are latino, 40% black , 10% pacific islander

Yes, there is Santa Clara Caltrain station near the downtown San Jose.
2 :
Yes, the Caltrain runs between San Francisco and San Jose. It takes a while though, unless you catch the express trains in mornings and evenings. It's still quicker than driving no matter what, though.
3 :
yes -- check it out http://www.caltrain.com/
4 :
Caltrain San Jose stations are: - Main station at 65 Cahill St -Tamien (1355 Lick Ave, at light rail station) - Capitol (3400 Monterey Hwy) - Blossom Hill (5560 Monterey Hwy) There is a minor station College Park, at 780 Stockton Ave near Bellarmine Prep with very limited service. SF stations are: - South SF (490 Dubuque Ave near 101) - Bayshore (400 Tunnel Ave) - 1149 22nd Avenue - and the terminus at 700 4th St & Townsend near the Giants baseball park. Fares between SF and SJ Cahill are $6.75 one-way. Discounts are available for 10-ride tickets, seniors and monthly passes. Weekday trains run from 4:30 am to 10:30 pm with trains approximately every 30 minutes, and very frequent service (10-15 minute separations) during commute hours. The regular train schedule is 1-1/2 hours from SJ to SF (100-numbered trains), while express service is 1 hour on the Baby Bullet trains (300-numbered trains.) The 200-number limited trains operate somewhat faster than the regular trains.
5 :
caltrain goes from gilroy to san francisco
6 :
take Caltrain. they have express trains and some experimental bullet trains (not like the japan ones, but they are faster with less stops) that go direct almost.

I know jobs are really hard to find now-a-days don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful, but I'm most likely getting paid at minimum wage...and gas is just a b*tch! And this my dads working car, he does newspapers for gods' sakes! (Not much pay at all&a gas burner...) I'll just be wasting more gas, and money that we don't have...! Any suggestions?

Culver's minimum hiring age is 14 with a workers permit. I called many stores because I am 14 looking for a job. This was the response they gave which makes me happy after looking for so long. Find a local one go online and apply and go in store to apply or call and ask if they are hiring. What I did was Google a bunch of business near my home and found their numbers using Google maps or their sites and I called and directly asked if they are hiring and what age do they hire at. Try local grocery stores, pizza parlors, retail stores, fast food restaurants.
2 :
They will hire you on your next birthday. You can start that day. Until then, invent a job for yourself. Organize neighbors' garages for $10 apiece. Once they see how hard you work, they will hire you for other jobs.
3 :
You could try and find a job doing something at a grocery store, or a fast food restaurant, but the best thing is to offer your services to a neighbor such as walking the dog, washing a car, mowing the lawn, babysitting etc. Because you're still below age in many different areas, you probably would not be covered under the Worker's Compensation act, and if you're not covered there, then unfortunately it puts that company at risk!
4 :
Many places will not hire a 14 yr old, you got bad advice from the person who said to make a list and call places to ask if they are hiring, business owners hate to be pestered with those calls, trust me, I know. Best advice is to work up something to make cash on your own, you make more $$ that way for the work you put in. When I was your age, I bought stencils and paint and painted curb numbers on houses. I saw something cool in my sisters neighborhood in the OC, they would add a little flower or a flag or something else to the number for additional $. All you need is someone to invest in your supplies, go to lowes or home depot, etc, price everything out you need to get started, make up a little flyer on your computer to give you some credibility, and to leave at the homes that do not answer the door maybe. Then ask someone to "invest" in the supplies you need to get you started, offer to pay them back a certain amount per week or per customer, so you don't give away all of your income. A lot more good tips here if you like the idea http://www.ehow.com/how_2319003_earn-extra-money-curb-painting.html

About what is the cheapest city to live in California between San Jose and San Francisco

What is the cheapest city to live in California between San Jose and San Francisco?
My sister works in San Francisco but goes to school in San Jose, so I want to help her find a place in between those two cities that she can afford to live by herself. Does anyone know which cities between them have cheapest rent so that I can start looking for apartments, ect...thanks!
San Francisco - 4 Answers

1 :
East Palo Alto is the cheapest suburb between San Francisco and San Jose. But you really wouldn't want to live there. It is definitely ghetto. Note that it is easy to get confused because Palo Alto itself is very upscale and probably out of your price range. For safe areas that are somewhat affordable, look at the towns around SFO International Airport. The noise and pollution from the planes make this area less "desirable." Therefore, these suburbs are a little cheaper than the rest of the Peninsula. Among them are Millbrae, Brisbane, San Bruno, and South San Francisco. You can certainly try to find apartments with decent insulation or that are sufficiently far away from the airport to minimize the affect.
2 :
If you are commuting between SF and SJ there are tons of cities at your option. IMO, the most desirable place to live would be the peninsula (as opposed to the East Bay) since you would have access to 280, offering an easy commute between the two cities but there are so many cities between SF and SJ it's not even funny. If you wanted the absolute cheapest places to live, I would look at Fremont, Hayward, San Leandro or something along those lines, but the problem is, traffic can be horrendous and people in the East Bay drive like crazy and the crime is a bit worse, neighborhoods not as nice, etc. Hayward, and Fremont are between SF and SJ but would require you to cross a bridge which would require a bridge toll (between $4 and $5). Personally I would live near the area around San Bruno, Daly City, South San Francisco, Pacifica, etc. Millbrae is not a bad place to live either. When I was looking for place to live I looked at many different rooms in houses (use Craigslist). I looked at many different rooms around the airport but I never remember looking at a place that had a lot of airplane noise. I think the previous answer is overblowing that a bit. Incoming flights to SFO fly over the water of the bay anyways so only the homes on the water can hear those like the ones living in easternmost Foster City, Redwood Shores, and San Mateo. As for the flights outbound from SFO, the flightpath is over a residential area, but it's smaller than you think. There is a heavy asian population around the Daly City, San Bruno, SSF area which is highly desirable for me since I'm asian, but caucasions might feel differently. Many of the food markets are asian. The easy access to 280 cannot be overstated. It was one of the primary reasons I loved living in San Bruno. 280 is the only freeway you can rely on to move between SF and SJ quickly and reliably. Every other freeway will leave you basically stuck in the mud every day and you wouldn't have to pay a toll. If you can land something in Burlingame near El Camino on the hill that would be great! It's a central location near shops and malls, not too far from 280 access, and it's quiet, low crime rate, pretty, and very close to where all the rich people live. =) Even better would be Belmont or San Carlos on the hills where you would have access to great view of the bay and close access to walking and hiking trails (and 280). Another other option would be the Redwood City, Palo Alto, Mountain View area. You can definitely find cheap rents here, just look around (avoid East Palo Alto). If you want to go further south, Sunnyvale and Campbell are also very desirable places.
3 :
Hmm. More detail would help. Does she go to both cities every day? Alternating days etc? Might be nice to live in Either San Jose or San Francisco instead of having to commute all the time. If daytime in San Jose, night time in San Francisco etc, might be nice to be in SF and just go to bed. There are affordable places all over the bay area, you just have to look carefully. Does she work in the Sunset, Financial District, or inner Richmond? Cheers, M
