You'll never know which stores will hire you until you ask. Just pick an afternoon and go from place to place and ask if they're accepting applications. They'll let you know ... and you can take the application along with you. Hint: In pencil, jot the name of the store at the top of the application. Good luck!

About where's the safest place to live in the San Jose area

Where's the safest place to live in the San Jose area?
I'm going to be working in San Jose soon, and I'm trying to find the best place to live. I have a wife and a baby, and my top priority is safety. We will probably rent for a while. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sunnyvale is nice. Everything in CA is expensive though. Try Sunnyvale or Mountain View. Any of these small cities are nice.
2 :
The Santa Teresa area in South San Jose is great. Some of my extended family live in that area and it has very nice neighborhoods that are clean. There are also good schools very nearby as well as multiple parks and trails. Also, it is very convieniet where they live, as there is many grocery stores and restaurants close by. Also, you may want to look in the Cambrian area. The school district is excellent, and has been distinguished by the state of California several times. This area is also convienient and has many parks nearby. I hope this helps! :]
3 :
SJ is No1 or No2 safest big city in the nation, especially West and North , South side
4 :
Saratoga is a little pricey but definitely one of the safest areas in San Jose. Just don't choose the east side, it's not safe.
5 :
Sunnyvale CA- it has the best rating. its was the 5th safest city for populations of 100,000+ in the whole USA. But honestly, all of the San Jose area is very safe compared to most places anywhere in US for its population. Steer clear of the East Side of San Jose, and the South Side of San Jose if you want to know the worser or the places...and like I said, even they aren't bad at all compared to most large population areas in US. Stay away from the East Bay area completely. Antioch, Oakland, etc. bad news.
6 :
I used to live (20+ years, stopped a year ago) in south San Jose, past Blossom Hill. South and West are the best areas in San Jose, but overall San Jose is a great and safe areas, continually ranked as one of the top safest cities in the nation.
7 :
West San Jose (willow Glen) area the best. Also the traffic from south areas are the worst in California. Good Luck
8 :
Near Willow Glenn or Evergreen area in south side San Jose. :D

don't know what they pay now, but my big brother used to work there and the pay was ok, but that was b4 the strike...just b careful...they aren't fair to their employees on other things OTHER than pay...they are struggling to fight low-budget stores like Walmart and Food 4 Less, so they give all the customers the rights, even when a customer comes in to steal (which is what happened in my brothers case)...the customer stole a beer, got arrested, but eventually sued for his 'product' back, and the company gave him a monetary settlement and sent my brother to customer service training as part of the settlement......what the???
2 :
Within the last year or so there was a new contract done with the Union. Benefits are not available until after a year of service, with your dependents, if any, getting benefits after 18 months. The pay is not what it used to be in the grocery business. It has changed drastically within the last few years. I know many checkers who have been there for years and still only get 24-32 hours a week. Nobody but management, supervisors, and a few others are even considered full time. They recently forced higher paid key carriers (supervisors) to either take a dramatic pay cut or get laid off. Safeway is making more money than ever, and screwing thier employees at every possible turn. Unless youve been there for a long time, It isnt worth it anymore.

About work in san jose.live in san francisco

work in san jose.live in san francisco?
i will be moving to calif soon and will be working in san jose. can i live in san francisco? or is the commute too horrible?
San Jose - 7 Answers

1 :
I live in San Jose, and it takes us about 45 minutes to get up to the city on non commute hours. I would prolly say it would take longer then that if your driving commute hours. Maybe an hour and a half to two hours.
2 :
one word HORRIBLE it takes 1 hr to get to san jose
3 :
I don't recommend it. Especially with the cost of gas, and you can't take BART or anything, because... well, it's San Jose. I guess if you *really* wanted to, have the resources (read: enough gas money), extra time for the commute (on Friday nights it's over an hour), then go for it. I'd much rather live in the City but it's just way impractical.
4 :
I wouldn't recommend it. San Francisco is actually more expensive to live in then the San Jose area, if that's possible. The commute isn't fun and why spend all that money for gas? There is a train, called Cal-Train that runs from SF to San Jose. It adds about an extra 45 minutes to the commute, and it ain't cheap either.
5 :
ummm well the drive normal without traffic is 45mins. but with traffic and gass pricing umm yea idk??? with traffic its about 1hour and 15 20 mins???? im not sure
6 :
I did commute from San Francisco to San Jose for six months. It is only a short term solution. Live in San Jose and travel to San Francisco on the weekends if you need to.
7 :
Right now if you commute longer than 45 mins then its bad. If its under 45 min. its good!

You didn't say where in San Jose you need to be, but they have an Extended Stay property in Downtown San Jose. Their phone number is 408-453-3000. If it's a company you are going to work for, they might be able to suggest some places, and they may even have discounts at certain properties...
2 :
http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/ Deffinently the cheapest nice place to stay....
3 :
um..hotel 6 haha but if your staying for a few months try to stay at a house, rent a room. i live in the east-side but it all depends where you want to stay, and how you look. if you want more info. e-mail me.
4 :
What is your budget? Extended Stay is a good place. Another popular option around here is to rent a room in someone's house. San Jose is a pretty safe city. But there are areas to avoid. Mostly just stay away from East and South San Jose. Otherwise, downtown is good and some areas of North and almost all of West San Jose is good.
5 :
When are you looking to be there? When my son was in college, he had a summer internship in the area. He eventually ended up sharing an apartment with some other students, but one of the options that he looked at was staying in a dormitory at one of the colleges in the area. The only constraint was that he could not move in until after the end of the Spring term and had to be out before students arrived for the Fall term.
6 :
Check on Craig's list - if the timing is right, you may get to house sit.

About how many hours a week can a 16 year old work in San Jose California

how many hours a week can a 16 year old work in San Jose California?

San Jose - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
As many as you would like to work.
2 :
up to 3 hours a day so 21 hours a week
3 :
Yeah, I had a tutoring position at my school last year. I worked an hour for 4 days a week on minimum wage.
4 :
During the school year, minors aged 16 to 17 generally are limited to 4 hours of work on a school day, 8 hours on a non-school day, between the hours of 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. (or until 12:30 a.m. on a non-school day). When school is out, the limits are 8 hours per day and 48 per week. Also, there is a list of jobs considered hazardous to the health of a minor so a minor is never allowed to be employed in said jobs (i.e. handling dynamite, operation of most heavy equipment, etc.)
5 :
You can work 40 hours a week if you are not in school. Other wise if your in school the law protects you from over working so you can get your studies done.

wow, you are asking for way too much if you want to make that much without a degree then a hooker would be your best bet.

if you're just starting a new job, or your first job, good luck on finding someone to pay you that much an hour at first haha. try to lower your expectations on this one, then after you've worked there for a year or so and proved that you're good at the job, ask for a small raise.
4 :
$15 dollars an hour is almost nothing here in the silicon valley,I think even "in&out burger" starts at $12 an hour here in San Jose, most cashier jobs pay about that much so it should be pretty easy to find a job with no expeirence for 15 an hour in the bay area.
5 :
the silicon valley is hard to live in we have the richest people living here!!you could work at sears or flea market
6 :
Here in the Bay area working at a decent resturant would get you that much in tips. If you are just starting out, you might need to prove yourself at a lower wage for a while. Checking Craigslist there are quite a few jobs over $15
7 :
most places for teens start out at minimum wage or just above. you should try starbucks. my girlfriend works there and makes hella bank

About how Old Do You Have To Be To Work in San Jose California

How Old Do You Have To Be To Work in San Jose California?
Hi im 13 years old i want a job ? How old do youu have too be ?
San Jose - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
State of California Federal and state occupational restrictions are such that in most cases minors must be at least 14 years of age to begin working. Any minor who is at least 12 years of age may be issued a Permit by school officials [EC 49111], however few occupations are available to them. Workhours for Twelve- and Thirteen-Year-Olds Twelve and thirteen-year-olds may be issued permits to work in the occupations permitted to them on a "regular school holiday, during the regular vacation of the public school..., and during a specified occasional public school vacation..." but not on any regular schoolday, either before or after school [EC 49111, 49112, and 49116]. The phrases referring to vacations and holidays are not precisely defined, but are usually construed to include weekends during the regular school year. Daily and weekly workhour maximums for 12 and 13-year-olds who may work during the regular school year are not specified in any statute, and are therefore left to local school officials to determine [EC 49111]. However, it is very unlikely that any local school official would issue permits allowing 12 and 13-year-olds to work hours in excess of the three per day and 18 per week accorded to 14 and 15-year-olds. At no time during the year or under any circumstances may 12 and 13-year-olds work more than eight hours in a day or 40 hours in a week in the occupations permitted to them [LC 1391]. 4. WAGES Minors must be paid at least the minimum wage and applicable overtime rates established by the California Industrial Welfare Commission [LC 1197, IWC Orders Section 4].

About where in San Francisco should I live if I work in San Jose

where in San Francisco should I live if I work in San Jose?
My concern is the length of the commute and how easy it is to get to the highway.
San Francisco - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
if you work in san jose ?....the best solution is is to live in san jose
2 :
Live in San Jose, it'll make life so much easier for you.
3 :
If you work in San Jose, the gas bill driving to and from SF will kill you. Look for a place in San Jose or Milpitas.
4 :
You should consider living in the South Bay (greater San Jose area) to avoid the commute. Otherwise consider a place near Caltrain stations so you could take the train for the commute.
5 :
If you want to live in San Francisco, you should live near the main Caltrain station (4th Street and King) and take the train. Once you're in San Jose, you can use VTA rail light or bus to get to your place of employment. Although you can drive down either 101 or 280, the traffic and gas costs will be considerable.
6 :
i live in San Rafael so I'm only about 10 minutes from San Fransisco. um mm... if you are single or have a BOY FRIEND then you should move the marina it is quite lovely there. i enjoy it , just make sure you don't buy anything to expensive
7 :
I'll just jump on the bandwagon here and recommend that you live closer to San Jose. Living in SF, you'd spend four hours a day commuting, which will be costly, both financially and physically. You really won't get to enjoy living in SF.
8 :
So, in other words, you are asking us if we know the way to San Jose. hehe. SJ is a very desireable place to live-- good weather, affordable and closer (much closer) to your work place. 50 miles one way is a long way to drive even if you don't take into account the Bay Area traffic. Live in San Jose and visit SF on weekends.
9 :
I agree with them....live in San Jose. It will take a minimum 1hr to commute. Could be even longer depending what time of day. Hwy 101 would be horrific during commute hrs.

About what's the best way to go to work from San Jose (near SJC airport) to Redwood City in the morning

What's the best way to go to work from San Jose (near SJC airport) to Redwood City in the morning?
I am new to this. If I want to avoid major traffic in the morning, how much earlier or later should I start driving? If I had to drive during high traffic time (e.g. jams on 101), what would be the best alternative routes? Though the starting location is around the intersection of 880 and 101 (not at the airport), so taking the airport bus is probably not a viable option. Also, even if we take the Caltrain to Redwood City, the transportation within the destination city is still very limited without a car. I prefer to explore options where we can still drive first.

Get a job as a pizza delivery driver. It usually pays minimum wage, but you get good tips on the deliveries, and most places will compensate you for the gas, if not lend you one of their cars. Right now I work for Mt. Mike's pizza, and I get paid minimum wage, plus $1 per delivery, and tips, which on an average night works out to about $17.50 an hour. It's a really easy job too. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if all places accept drivers that are under the age of 18, you'll have to check that out for yourself, but you'll have a better chance at getting a job as a driver than one as a waiter, because waiters need to serve alcohol.
